Elizabeth Flechl (soprano) , Austria

 

Austrian-born soprano Elisabeth Flechl studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, graduating with a Master of Arts in recorder and piano. She then went on to study lieder and oratorio with Kurt Equiluz and Walter Berry. In 1989 Elisabeth won the Austrian Young Musician of the Year Award.

Elisabeth Flechl has established herself as one of Austria's foremost sopranos in both opera and operetta. She made her debut at the Vienna Volksoper in April 2001 as Rosalinde in Strauss's Die Feldermaus.

Her repertoire includes Countess in Mozart's «Le Nozze di Figaro», Donna Elvira «Don Giovanni», Erste Dame «Die Zauberflote», Carl Maria von Weber's Agathe «Der Freischutz», Woglinde «Gotterdammerung», Antonia «Les Contes d'Hoffmann» by Jaques Offenbach, Governess in Benjamin Britten's «The turn of the Screw», Nell in «Maschinist Hopkins» by Max Brand, Elisabeth in «Kehraus um Sankt Stephan» by Ernst Krenek, the Countess in Strauss's «Wiener Blut», Lisa in «The Land of Smiles» and Hanna Glawari in «The Merry Widow» by Franz Lehar, Countess Mariza «Grafin Marizza» and Sylva Varescu «Die Csardasfurstin» by Emmerich Kalman.

She appears in all big opera houses in Austria and Germany: e.g. Volksoper Wien, Opernhaus Graz, Salzburger Landestheater, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Stadttheater Baden and Sommerarrena Baden, Bregenzer Festspiele, Brucknerfestival Linz, Klangbogen Wien, Theater an der Wien, Operettenfestspiele Bad Ischl and Mörbisch.

As a concert, interpreting lieder and oratorio, Elisabeth has performed in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia, USA, Japan and Australia. Her repertoire as a concert singer includes all famous baroque oratorios from Bach and Händel, many masses and oratorios by Haydn and Mozart, Beethoven 9th Symphony, Brahms «Deutsches Requiem», Strauss «Four last songs», Orff «Carmina burana».

Since 2007-2008 she is a member of the Vienna Volksoper in leading roles.
