Lovro Pogorelich (piano) , Croatia
One of the most famous Croatian pianists of our time, Lovro Pogorelich has gained recognition not only as a great virtuoso, but also as a brilliant interpreter of the brightest creative individuality.
The first piano lessons musician received from his father. In subsequent years, his teacher was remarkable Russian pianist and pedagogue Konstantin Goddess. At the age of thirteen Lovro played his first recital, and in fifteen performed Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Symphony Orchestra of Dubrovnik. Since 1987 the musician's eventful artistic life has begun: his performances take place in the most famous concert halls around the world.
In 1992, Lovro Pogorelich finished studying at the Zagreb Academy of Music and moved to Paris, where he kept an active creative work and participated in music conferences and master classes.
In 1996, the Croatian television produced a film about the pianist, and two years later on the invitation of Zagreb Academy of Music he became one of the leading professors of the institution. After returning from France to Croatia, in 1999 he established a summer arts festival in the city of Pag. The forum is held annually and assembles artists from many countries.
Lovro Pogorelich has recorded several albums. On the work of one of them - with the pieces of Franz Liszt - a popular French music channel Mezzo created a documentary. Release of the latest Lovro Pogorelich' CD was published in November 2008. The album with «Pictures at an Exhibition» by Mussorgsky and Rachmaninoff preludes appeared on the French company Intrada and received excellent reviews. In particular, the authoritative French edition «Le monde de la musique»' critic wrote about the pianist's interpretation of «Pictures at an Exhibition»: «Without forcing, but using bright colors, Lovro Pogorelich in his interpretation evokes a truly orchestral sonority very naturally. That is a great job! »
There is a huge interest of Lovro Pogorelich to Russia. He is already familiar to the Moscow audience with the concerts at the festival «Art-November», and in 2010-2011 season he performs in the capital with Pavel Kogan's MSSO at the Gnesin' Academy Concert Hall (conductor - Mary Eklund, Sweden) and plays recital in the «Orchestrion» Hall, as well as tours in Yekaterinburg, Perm and Voronezh.
