Sergey Aleksashkin was born in1952. He graduated from Saratov Conservatoire. Then worked on probation in La Scala in 1983-1984. He is the soloist of the Mariinsky theatre since 1989.

He toured in Europe, America, Japan, Australia, South Korea many times and worked with such conductors as Sir George Solti, Valery Gergiev, Claudio Abbado, Yuri Temirkanov, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Mstislav Rostropovich, Marek Janovsky, Rudolf Barshai, Pinkhas Steinberg, Eliahu Inbal, Pavel Kogan, Neemi Jarvi, Eri Klass, Maris Jansons, Vladimir Fedoseev, Alexander Lasarev, Vladimir Spivakov, Dmitry Kitaenko, Vladimir Jurovsky, Ivan Fischer, Ilan Volkov, Michijoshi Inoue, etc.

Sergey Aleksashkin sang in the world leading opera houses and concert halls, such as La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, the Washington Opera, Champs Elisee, Carnegie Hall, the Rome Opera, the Hamburg Opera, Opera National de Lion, the Madrid Opera, the San-Francisco Opera, the Geoteborg Opera, Opera de Santiago, the Bolshoy theatre, Festival Hall (London), Concert Gebow, Santa Cecilia, Albert Hall, Barbican Hall, Moscow Concervatoire Hall, Tchaikovsky Hall, etc.

He took part in the following opera and concert festivals many times: Salzburg Easter Festival, San Sebastian Festival, Baden-Baden Festival, Mikkeli Festival, Savonlinna Festival, Glyndebourne Opera Festival and the White Nights.

He has a versatile opera-concert repertoire and a large number of audio and video recordings.
